Air North's Genesis
Founded in 1977 by Joe Sparling and Tom Wood, Air North initially charted its course in servicing the mining industry. What began as a humble charter and training service quickly evolved, becoming a vital link for Yukon's remote communities.
As the '80s dawned, Air North's fleet evolved, welcoming legendary Douglas DC-3 and DC-4 aircraft. These sturdy workhorses symbolized an era of growth and resilience, carrying the airline into a position of prominence in the northern skies.

The Avro HS 748: A Pioneering Vision
Step back to the late 1950s, where the Avro HS 748 took flight as a revolutionary move by Avro to tap into civil and export markets. Powered by the reliable Rolls-Royce Dart turboprop engine, it em rged as a modern feederliner destined to replace the aging Douglas DC-3s. The series 1 HS 748, taking its inaugural flight on 24 June 1960, entered revenue service in 1961. Avro was acquired by Hawker Siddeley in 1963.
Initially intended for the civilian market, the HS 748 found a home in military fleets worldwide. Marketed as a feederliner with an optimal seating capacity of around 40 passengers, it became a versatile aircraft, bridging both civilian and military applications.As the aviation landscape evolved, the production of the HS 748 ceased in 1988, marking the end of a remarkable chapter. BAE Systems, the successor to Hawker Siddeley, notes that 381 aircraft were produced during the type's production
life.
Air North's Transition and Modernization
