The Giant is back at Aviationtag!

A-B-E-D. Not quite the right order, but – following the 9V-SKA, the 9V-SKB and the 9V-SKE – it gives us great pride nonetheless to now also unveil the 9V-SKD! The next former Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 to now be joining our Aviationtag fleet.

26.04.2008 was the day the Airbus A380-841 with manufacturer serial number (MSN) 8 was delivered to Singapore Airlines, where it was given the registration 9V-SKD. The A380 often flew on routes to Sydney, Hong Kong and Tokyo – but could also be spotted in Frankfurt and London.

After less than 10 years, though, in December 2017, the MSN 8 already took its last scheduled flight and was retired by Singapore Airlines – at a list price of up to 450 million US dollars no less. In 2018, it was still parked in France, where its lessor gave it the temporary registration 9H-DPD. In 2022, the A380 was then scrapped and we were able to get our hands on some parts, upcycling them into our latest Aviationtag Edition.

From the top 10 oldest A380 models, the MSN 3, the MSN 5, the MSN 10 have already featured in Aviationtag editions and now the MSN 8 is joining them.

At a capacity of up to 853 passengers, the Airbus A380 is the largest mass-produced civil commercial aircraft in aviation history. It has a range of up to 15,200 km and a maximum cruising speed of some 961 km/h. Its wingspan is 79.8m and its height comes in at an impressive 24.8m. Its maximum take-off weight is approximately 590 tonnes.

Incidentally, Singapore Airlines was the launch customer for the Airbus A380. In October 2007, the airline received its first of a total of 24 A380s – the 9V-SKA / MSN 3 from our first Aviationtag A380 Edition.

Today, the national carrier of the city-state of Singapore, based at Singapore Airport, still boasts 17 A380s in its fleet. The beginnings of today’s airline date back to the late 1940s.

The Star Alliance member was merged with SilkAir in 2020 as air travel was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Singapore Airlines is one of just ten 5-star airlines in the Skytrax rating, alongside All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, Eva Air, Garuda Indonesia, Hainan Airlines and Qatar Airways.

On 17 March 2021, the MSN272, the last in a line of a total of 251 planes, left the production halls in Toulouse for Hamburg, where the final assembly of the A380 took place. On 16 December 2021, Emirates took the last delivery of an A380.
