The story of the aircraft later registered as TF-FIU began on April 8, 1994. On July 29 of the same year, the Boeing 757 was delivered to Iberia. Following further chapters in its career, including service with Air Europa, it joined the Icelandair Group in 2004 and received its Icelandic registration, TF-FIU.
In late 2014, the chapter that would make the aircraft famous began. A team of specialist artists transformed the Boeing 757 into Hekla Aurora using elaborate airbrushing techniques. Northern Lights in green, turquoise, and blue flowed above an Icelandic winter landscape, while specially programmed LED lighting brought the aurora into the cabin.
After more than 31 years, 80,622 flight hours, and 29,356 landings, its active career ended in 2025. On October 12, Icelandair bid farewell to Hekla Aurora with a special sightseeing flight over Iceland. The aircraft was later transferred to Lleida, Spain. In July 2026, we recovered sections of its original aircraft skin there and worked with Icelandair to create the Aviationtag × Icelandair Edition.
Every Aviationtag comes directly from the material of this aircraft. Its complex livery, flowing color transitions, stars, and different sections of the winter landscape make every piece distinctive. No two tags look exactly alike – and that is what gives each one its individual character.
TF-FIU was a Boeing 757-256 with manufacturer serial number 26243, powered by two Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 engines. An aircraft that connected people across Iceland, Europe, and North America for decades now continues its journey in an entirely new form.
With the registration TF-FIU, aircraft type, and an individual serial number engraved into its surface, every Aviationtag becomes a clearly identifiable piece of aviation history.
Secure an original piece of Hekla Aurora from the Aviationtag × Icelandair Edition while it is still available.
