The Aviationtag Edition of the Twin Otter N460TA

Rugged, reliable, and versatile—these are the qualities that have defined the de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter since its first flight on May 12, 1967. Built for the most demanding environments, this STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) aircraft became a go-to solution for missions in the Arctic, island chains, and mountainous terrain. Now, thanks to Aviationtag, part of its fuselage lives onin a completely new form—as a collectible aircraft tag.

Global Journey of Twin Otter MSN 46

The N460TA began its journey as I-FALO, manufactured by de Havilland Canada Inc. in 1967 and delivered as MSN 46 of the Twin Otter Series 100. It was later operated by Mackey International Airlines in the United States, flying routes in Florida and the Bahamas. The aircraft was also used by Ozark Air Lines, another U.S. regional
carrier. It then moved to Iceland, serving with various operators including Eagle Air (Arnarflug), Íslandsflug, Íscargo HF, and Flugfélag Vængir.

In the 1990s,it flew under Oceanair in Portugal. It later joined SAPSA in the Dominican Republic, operating in the Caribbean. The aircraft was then registered in Canada, where it was managed by Gravitas Aviation, a company specializing in aircraft
leasing and operations. In its final years, it was flown by Texas Air Services in the United States.

Final Stop: Budapest to Aviationtag Legacy

Toward the end of its service life, the aircraft found its way into a museum in Budapest, Hungary. Aviationtag was able to acquire several fuselage panels before the aircraft was ultimately scrapped in early 2025.

These salvaged parts have now been transformed into authentic Aviationtags—each one a piece of aviation history you can hold in your hand. The panels were carefully removed, cleaned, and upcycled by hand in Cologne, Germany.

Thanks to this process, the legacy of MSN 46 lives on—preserved not only in memory, but also in the pockets and collections of aviation fans around the world.

Known for its ability to take off and land on the shortest, roughest runways—and even on water or snow when equipped with floats or skis—the Twin Otter has remained a favorite among pilots operating in the world’s most remote areas. Its unpressurized cabin allowed it to fly lower than commercial jets, offering scenic views and practical advantagesa for short-haul operations.

The aircraft’s unique qualities have made it indispensable to scientists, skydivers, and cargo operators alike. The Twin Otter has been used for
everything from ferrying researchers in Antarctica to transporting tourists in the Maldives. Its dual-engine configuration gave it the name “Twin Otter,”distinguishing it from its single-engine predecessor, the DHC-3 Otter.

A Legacy of Flight, in Your Pocket

For Aviationtag collectors, this edition is more than just a tag—it’s a tribute to an aircraft that exemplifies durability and adaptability. The tag carries the legacy of a machine built to connect the world’s most isolated communities. It also reinforces Aviationtag’s mission: preserving aviation heritage through sustainable upcycling.
