Nachdem die zum Global Super Tanker umgebaute Boeing 747-400 „Tanker 944″ in eine Frachtmaschine umgerüstet wurde, ist die DC-10 100 von 10 Tanker das größte Löschflugzeug der Welt. Pro Flug kann sie 45.000 Liter Wasser oder Löschmitte aus den am Rumpf befestigten Spezialtanks abwerfen. Der gesamte Inhalt kann binnen acht Sekunden freigesetzt werden, jedoch lässt sich die Abwurfzeit vom Cockpit auch variabel steuern und hinauszögern.

Unsere N450AX wurde 1975 zunächst noch als N69NA an National Airlines mit der Manufacturer Serial Number (MSN) 46942 ausgeliefert. Ab 1980 flog sie als „Clipper Star Light“ für die legendäre Pan Am, bevor Sie ab 1983 mit der neuen Registrierung N161AA für American Airlines und später auch für Hawaiian Airlines eingesetzt wurde.

Ihre finale Registrierung N450AX erhielt die DC-10 100 im Jahre 1997 wo sie von der amerikanischen Charterfluggesellschaft Omni Air International übernommen wurde. 2005 wurde sie dann schließlich zum Löschflugzeug umgebaut und war als 910 für 10 Tanker im Einsatz bis 2014.

In diesem Jahr hatten wir dann die einmalige Chance, Material von diesem einmaligen Löschflugzeug zu bekommen und dieses zu unsere aktuellen Aviationtag Edition upzucyceln.

The N450AX has experienced a lot in its life – if only it could tell stories. It also has many years under its belt and therefore the paintwork is not in good condition. The paint is flaky and it can come off easily, especially at the edges. We cannot accept any complaints based on the condition of the paint. If you are uncomfortable with that, please chose a different edition.

The DC-10 The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 is a tri-jet wide-body airliner manufactured by McDonnell Douglas. The DC-10 was intended to succeed the DC-8 for long-range flights. It first flew on August 29, 1970 from Long Beach, California to the Edwards US Air Force Base. On August 5, 1971 it was introduced by American Airlines. Production ended in 1989, with 386 delivered to airlines

They are part of what makes every Aviationtag unique – a genuine piece of aviation history.

For tags with a NoLongerLost QR code, scan the code on the back with your smartphone or enter the 8-digit code on nolongerlost.com to register your tag. If your Aviationtag is found, the finder can scan the code or report it to us, and we will do our best to help bring it back to you.
