From VIP Jet to Aviationtag: The Story of VP-CMO

This Aviationtag edition was made from the fuselage of a truly unique aircraft: a Boeing 727-200 Super 27 with the registration VP-CMO. Originally delivered in 1979 to Singapore Airlines as 9V-SGJ, the aircraft began its life in commercial service. It briefly operated for Alaska Airlines in 1985 before being transformed into a luxurious VIP jet.

During the conversion, the 727 received an exclusive interior with 32 VIP seats, a private bedroom suite, a shower-equipped bathroom, and a spacious lounge area – complete with fine wood finishes and leather upholstery. Technically, VP-CMO was upgraded to the rare Super 27 standard: its engines were replaced with more powerful, quieter versions and winglets were added to improve efficiency. This extended the aircraft’s operational life considerably and made it one of the most advanced Boeing 727s in private use.

Throughout its VIP career, the aircraft flew globally under various registrations, including VR-COJ and N31TR, and was most recently operated by MK Airlines. In 2010, it was retired and brought to Lasham, UK, where it remained parked and was eventually scrapped in 2014. Parts of its fuselage were preserved – and now live on as this special Aviationtag edition. The tags reflect the aircraft’s exclusive character, combining classic jetliner heritage with a rare VIP past. Whether you're an Aviationtag collector, a Boeing 727 enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates the story behind the metal – this tag is a true piece of aviation history.

Important Note:

Each Aviationtag is unique and differs in texture, material thickness, and color. Small irregularities tell of the many years in the air and express the character of days gone by. Minor scratches, paint chips, and unevenness are completely normal and give the Aviationtag its special charm – that of a vintage product made from upcycled materials. These features did not arise from the production process but reflect the condition of the used aircraft material!

When used as a keychain or luggage tag, we recommend using the Aviationtag protective cover.

Boeing 727: The Boeing 727 was introduced in 1963 as Boeing's first trijet and quickly became a bestseller of the 1960s and 70s. With over 1,800 units built, it was designed for short and medium distances and could also serve smaller airports. The Super 72 variant was a subsequent upgrade: two new, quieter engines and winglets improved performance and efficiency. This modification made it possible to continue operating the 727 economically despite stricter noise protection regulations. Now as an Aviationtag!

Yes, small dents, scratches, paint chips or other signs of use are possible. These marks do not come from production, but from the aircraft’s time in service, flying millions of miles and being exposed to weather, UV radiation and extreme conditions at high altitude. They are part of what makes every Aviationtag unique – a genuine piece of aviation history.
